One of my jobs as the Indie Overnight Music Director is to submit new music we like to CMJ, a college music journal that works similarly to Billboard Hot 100, but isn't total rubbish.
Anyways, they have not been doing their job lately, and many promoters and labels in the music world are baffled. Their essential duty is to display the top 200 albums in college radio. However, for the past month they haven't displayed a single chart. Why are promoters baffled? Because they simply can't figure out which albums in college radio are getting spins.
Surprised it's the weekend already? Didn't make any plans yet? As always, KRTU Indie Overnight has you covered.

A personal vendetta against 99.5 KISS has taken the nation and Facebook sphere by storm. In what has been variously called both heroic and whiny, local music figures have taken it upon themselves to bemoan the injustice of a radio station adhering to their FCC-approved format.
If you're finding yourself with nothing to do, we've got you covered. San Antonio has a lot for you to watch, learn, shop, and give this weekend...
In the wake of the former National Security Advisor's resignation on Tuesday, sources confirmed that Michael Flynn's workout playlist has been entirely converted to 29 different versions of "Mother Russia" by Iron Maiden.
"Now that everything's all out in the open, Michael feels like he's finally free to express himself, musically and otherwise," said Vladimir Putin, a close friend and long-time co-conspirator of Flynn's. "Last I heard, he was shredding it like Dave Murray at Gold's Gym."
Sources also report that "Stranger in Moscow" and "Back in the USSR" are close contenders for Flynn's Friday resignation party playlist, though this has not yet been confirmed.
Check out the playlist here.
For those who don't know Julien Baker, prepare yourself for what is a special gift to the genre of indie pop/rock. Her first album Sprained Ankle released in 2015, and it left a chiming chill down her listener's spines. Every time I've asked people about her, they always say "DUDE, Julien Baker?! Where did she come from?" I understand the response, because even as a music director she was nowhere on my radar. But now, her signing with Matador Records has become the next big step in her music career. She's soon to show up on your radars.
Matador Records is a label who's list of artists include Sleater-Kinney, Pavement, and Yo La Tengo, many of whom are still around in some way. Baker signing on to Matador is the next step to growing her already increasingly rapt audience. Not to mention she's a proud member of the LGBTQ community, from the south. She's definitely a unique, proud, and important voice in our current time.
